Albuquerque has its issues, but open space conservation and management to preserve natural and archaeological resources is not one of them. Starting in 1968 with the acquisition of 8500 acres (~3440ha), the City has added land almost every year since, and now manages over 29000 acres/11736ha in and around the city. The 97-acre Candelaria Farm was its first farmland acquisition, in 1977.
